About Sahara India - Indian & Mediterranean Restaurant

Let me introduce you to Sahara India - Indian & Mediterranean Restaurant, a local restaurant I genuinely enjoy talking about whenever food comes up. Sitting right on 15 Campbell Street in Leamington, Cambridge 3433, New Zealand, this place blends Indian and Mediterranean flavours in a way that feels relaxed, welcoming, and full of character. From the moment you step in, the atmosphere feels easygoing, making it just as suitable for a casual dinner as it is for a laid-back catch-up with friends.

What really stands out to me is the flexibility Sahara India - Indian & Mediterranean Restaurant offers. You can dine in and soak up the warm restaurant vibe, grab a quick takeaway on busy days, or order delivery when staying in feels like the best plan. There’s also outdoor seating, which is great when the weather is on your side, and no-contact delivery options for extra convenience. Because of that, it fits smoothly into everyday routines without feeling complicated.

The menu keeps things interesting while still being approachable. You’ll find halal food alongside vegetarian options, small plates for sharing, and quick bites when you’re short on time. Organic dishes appear throughout the menu, and late-night food makes it a handy choice when hunger hits outside the usual hours. Drinks are covered too, with beer, wine, spirits, and alcohol options that pair well with the bold, spiced flavours coming out of the kitchen.

I like how Sahara India - Indian & Mediterranean Restaurant balances variety with comfort. The food feels thoughtfully prepared without being intimidating, and the service options make it easy to choose how you want to enjoy your meal on any given day. Whether you’re in the mood for something light, something hearty, or simply something different, this restaurant makes it feel effortless. For newcomers exploring the area, it often becomes a comfortable go-to spot that feels familiar yet exciting, especially for anyone curious about bold spices and relaxed dining.

Being Punjabi, samosas and parathas have always been an essential part of life for me. I recently tried them at Shara India Restaurant, and I must say, everything tasted really good. The parathas were nicely made and less oily, just as I requested. The samosa chaat was delicious and mildly spicy — exactly how I like it. The mango lassi was perfect too, just the way a Punjabi would want it! I also had a lovely chat with Renu and her husband (sorry, forgot his name!) who own the place — both were very friendly and welcoming. Overall, a great experience!

We tried the Butter Chicken, Chicken Biryani, and Garlic Naan, and everything was absolutely delicious. It was our second time having Indian food in New Zealand, and we loved it. Highly recommended from two Chileans traveling around the country

I left my wallet at this restaurant last time I was here and the amazing staff kept it safe for me until I could come back and retrieve it today. Thanks so much! Needless to say, the food was AMAZING as always. We got a Chicken Bhuna (the red curry), and a Chicken Afghani. The Bhuna has such an interesting, peppery taste. So different from most curries and so unique. Was delicious! The Chicken Afghani was soooo creamy, unbelievably delicious. Like an even better Korma. We travelled all the way from Auckland for this restaurant, and I’m sure it won’t be the last time! Lovely staff who are happy to have a chat, they’re so welcoming and kind. I wish we could leave more than five stars!

First time visiting this little local restaurant and was pleasantly surprised. They had pasta on their menu which we wanted to try and unfortunately it was quite tasteless, however, the indian food we ordered was devine!!! And the service was outstanding. We will be back!!

Absolutely delicious food. We walked into this restaurant on a cold and wet June day whilst camping around the corner. Very happy to see they had very clearly labelled Vegan Options. If we're back in Cambridge we would definitely return. Staff were also great.
